Julie recently completed Board Certification as a Holistic Nurse. Holistic nursing is defined as “all nursing practice that has healing the whole person as its goal” (American Holistic Nurses’ Association, 1998, Description of Holistic Nursing). Holistic nursing is a specialty practice that draws on nursing knowledge, theories, expertise and intuition to guide nurses in becoming therapeutic partners with people in their care (AHNA 2010).
In April 2010, Julie and colleague Marlene Husson presented an educational session “Understanding Psychological First Aid-A Disaster Behavior Health Response Tool” at the Colorado Counseling Association Annual Conference.
In March 2008 at the American Counseling Association Annual Conference and Exposition in Honolulu, Hawaii, Julie gave a well-received presentation on the counselor who works in disaster and emergency response titled “The Counselor and the Disaster Response Team- An Emerging Role”.

Julie will be featured on a cover story interview in September 2008 “Counseling Today” magazine on the topic of unique career options for counselors.
Julie will be busy in 2009 as she will be presenting an educational session at the American Counseling Associations Annual Conference and Exposition in Charlotte, North Carolina in March. Julie and colleague Marlene Husson will provide an interactive session for counselors which will teach concepts of “Psychological First Aid” which is used by disaster mental health responders during emergency response.
Julie continues to present information on the psychological aspects of emergency and trauma and is a regular instructor in the Denver metro area C.E.R.T. (Citizen Emergency Response Teams) program.
Julie has presented the “Disaster Psychology” section of C.E.R.T. training for deaf and hearing impaired citizen emergency responders in Denver.
